Peace Baptist Church is hosting its 2nd Annual Shades of Pink 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness of breast cancer and domestic violence.
The Shades of Pink 5K Run/Walk was established in honor of Peace’s first lady, Tabitha Barnette. In 1999, Tabitha was diagnosed with stage 3B breast cancer at the age of 33. As a 17 year survivor, she vows to support women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer as well as their loved ones.
Tabitha is also passionate about supporting women who are victims of domestic violence. She believes many organizations support breast cancer during the month of October; however, there are many women who are suffering in silence from domestic violence. Tabitha feels it is important for women to wear their story, whether it is “pink” for breast cancer or “purple” for domestic violence, thus coining the phrase “Shades of Pink”.
The Shades of Pink 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Stone Mountain Park – Triangle Lot. Proceeds from this walk will be used to support current breast cancer patients and domestic violence victims through Peace on the Move.
